Cheap Trick CT 240/230 revised retro speaker with additional bass driver as in Klang+Ton 1/2009

The Cheap Trick CT 230 was a retro speaker with Visaton drivers published in Klang+Ton 3/2007. For those of you who prefer more bass we strongly recommend the CT 240 (CT 230 revised) with an additional Visaton W 300 S4 for bass.

The CT 240 (CT230 revised) is a bass reflex shelf speaker with Visaton W 300 S4 bass driver, a Visaton TW 6 NG cone tweeter and a Visaton BG 20 full range driver that needs to be modified.

... "The synthesis between enthusiastic drive and fat bass is simply perfect. Those of you who thought that the CT230 was a hint too reserved around the bottom end, will get kicked in the belly by the CT240. And if that's not enough then hard suspended, active 18 inch PA drivers will do the trick, but they won't get as low. But what's even more interesting than the endurance of the speaker is the fact that there is a tremendous attention to detail: the BG20 relieved from all lower frequencies is a detail detector and it is quite astonishing how meticulously this speaker reproduces even the finest nuances like .... and for how long the decay of vibrating strings is audible. What's particularly noticeable is how well the CT240 differentiates between genuine and artificial reverberation and how this reverb is reproduced in the first place. Apart from the bass the tonal balance of the CT240 is as close as possible to its ancestor, as close as we could manage. And this tremendous openness, the guttural and earthy sound that's exactly what the visual examples like Infinity or JBL are suggesting: pure and unbridled joy excitement. CT 240 with high-end crossover

Our kit with high-end crossover remains the same for lower frequencies, with the exception of the coil in parallel. Due to the reduced resistance of the coil L2 the value of resistor R1 has to be increased. As a result, 4 resistors 22 OHM MOX10 in parallel have to be employed.

In the signal path to the BG 20 midrange driver a copper foil coil cfc 16 with 1.5 mH is used; an audiophile Mundorf MCAP is fitted for both mid and high frequencies.
