PaRaSub XXL is subwoofer that was designed to reproduce bass from 16 Hz upwards. A bass reflex tube with an adequate resonance frequency would be quite long and, therefore, a passive driver was chosen instead. The woofer is a Mivoc XAW 310 (discontinued) that needs to be modified. The construction manual describes how the dust cap needs to be weighted down with u-shaped washer to ensure that the Mivoc 310 may be used as an active or passive woofer.

The subwoofer is driven by a separate Reckhorn A-402 amplifier.

An excerpt from the Hobby HiFi review

"For the listening test we combined the PaRaSub XXL with aEI Nino from HOBBY HiFi 4/20I0, an excellent two-way speaker with relatively little low bass but with high efficiency. If the crossover frequency of the Reckhorn amplifier is set to 60 Hz the two are a perfect match. The legendary Sheffield CD "Kodo: Heartbeat Drummers of Japan" really got going with the O-Daiko drum. This enormous instrument is capable of producing ultra low bass like no other percussion instrument. And this bass is flooding the room with pressure and volume without equal. Even with the XXL sub the sound was an extraordinary experience, but thanks to the passive cone there was still an improvement. The drums are taking over without neglecting attention to detail. The drummer's voices are clearly understandable and their positions are defined with a never experienced pin-point accuracy. The organ of the Winchester Cathedral equipped with complete 32 foot pedals allows a merciless 16 Hertz test. The PaRaSub XXL passes this test with flying colors: listening to Edvard Grieg's "In the Hall of the Mountain King" (Organ Spectacular, Isis Records CD 009) mighty bass floods the room and the enormous length of the nave becomes a lifelike experience. The bass waves are astonishingly mellow without any harshness. The bass is just there, without trying to take over."
